Presidential Excellence Scholarship 

This scholarship award for students in the Fall 2024 inaugural cohort of the Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree program is based on academic excellence. Academic excellence is determined and based on cumulative grade point average (GPA) for all post-secondary coursework, prerequisite GPA, and undergraduate major of 3.5 or higher at the time of enrollment.  The awards are up to $1,000 a quarter, which are credited to the recipient’s tuition for 10 quarters as long as the recipient meets Satisfactory Academic Progress. Scholarship application is not required; however, we do encourage applying for early admission to the program. 

Dean’s Excellence Scholarship 

This scholarship award for students in the Fall 2024 inaugural cohort of the Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree program is based on academic excellence. Academic excellence is determined and based on cumulative grade point average (GPA) for all post-secondary coursework, prerequisite GPA, and undergraduate major of 3.0 to 3.499 at the time of enrollment.  The awards are up to $500 a quarter, which are credited to the recipient’s tuition for 10 quarters as long as the recipient meets Satisfactory Academic Progress. Scholarship application is not required; however, we do encourage applying for early admission to the program. 

Disclosure: Sonoran University’s Presidential Excellence and Dean’s Excellence Scholarships are available to the inaugural cohort enrolling in the Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in the Fall 2024 term. Scholarship availability can change every year.

Financial Aid


Sonoran University is a participant in the Title IV federal student aid program administered by the United States Department of Education. Federal student aid is available for those students who qualify.

All applicants must submit the following:

  • A completed online application and paid application fee.
  • A current resume or CV.
  • A personal statement.
  • Official transcript from the institution that conferred your highest awarded degree.*
  • Military transcript for former members of the armed services.
  • Letters of recommendation (optional).
  • Complete an interview with a member of the admissions team via Zoom.
  • Pass background check.*
  • A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale is preferred. However, Sonoran uses a holistic admissions process for our MS programs, and all applicants with a GPA below 2.75 are encouraged to apply to be considered on a case-by-case basis.

*Transcript must be from a regionally accredited, or candidate, college or university.

*Candidates admitted to the CMHC program will be required to undergo a criminal background check and must permit the results to be provided by the reporting agency to Sonoran University.
